Things That Make You Feel ...OLD?

With most of us approaching the end of our 30's and having just had our 20th High School reunion... I feel the need to ask, "Do you feel old? If so, what makes you feel this way?". For me, this sign makes me feel old. The first time I saw it at a party store, I took a double take. Let us know your thoughts here... click "comments".

Of course I feel old. But I don't let myself slow down to much. My children are now coming up in the same school district that I did, and I am seeing a lot of old faces that I knew when I was younger. Life doesn't slow down, with all the extra curricular activities that my children are into, I seem to have a harder time keeping up. When I was in school, I ran track, and worked two jobs just so I could have the things I wanted. Now, I work one job, and watch my daughter do cross country. I still keep busy with renovating my house, and I started a new business just for fun. My company name is BA Design, I do embroidery, and silk screening. I have done the Cross Country team shirts, and the new Peer Mediation groups shirts for the High, and Junior High schools. I am just having fun right now. If it gets bigger, then maybe I will leave my job, and do it full time. I know that my outlook in life is to keep moving, and doing things that you like. Don't let all the small things drag you down. Life is to short as is, and we are only here for a short time. Have fun while you can.
On a side note. I ran into Mr. Numer's daughter Kelly the other day. We knew each other from elementary school. I asked her how her dad was doing, and she had said that he had a small stroke two days before. He was in Texas, he stoped for some food, and couldn't feel his leg. He went to the hospital, and is doing fine now. He was on his way camping. I can only hope that when I get older, I can be just like him. LOL.... I did tell her to let him know that we all are thinking about him, and hope that he is doing great. I told her that our class voted him the most memorable teacher from our past. She said that she will pass on our best wishes.
Well I hope that this answered your question. Oh, and if anyone wants any shirts, or anything done, just give me a call. 586-306-1796. I will be more than happy to hear from you.

Do I feel old?? You know that is a very good question. Sometimes I feel very good and I feel like there is nothing that I can't do that I did 20 years ago. But then I do something stupid like I did this past weekend. I painted my livingroom and hallway. Ceiling, primer and the color for a total of 11 hours on Sunday. When I woke up on Monday morning I could not lift my legs I was so sore from getting up and down off of a stool to do the trim and the ceilings my entire body ached. I could honestly say I felt my age for the first time. It scared me very much.

It doesn't bother me at all to age. I feel like everyday that I get older I get the pleasure of seeing my children get older. Next year I will have 3 kids in high school (Ford II). I have a 16g, 15g, 13b and 12g. Attached is a picture of my family :)

Hope everyone is doing well and e-mail if you like :)

The only time that I begin to feel my age is after a nite of many alcholic beverages. I cannot stay out and bash it up like i used to and function like a human being the next day. It is physically impossible and I won't do that to myself like i used to.

It must be said that with age comes wisdom. If I could go back and re-do my high school years, I rthink I would but I would make damn sure that I know then what I know now.

Worry less what others think. Worry more about grades. But enjoy and experience it all because it will be done in the blink of an eye. Yes, I preach this to my teenagers but because they "know it all". They ignore me.

One final thought: 40 is the new 30!!

No I don't feel almost 40 but I think about it alot. I am recently engaged to be married again and I want another child. My son will be 15 in May and I'm always thinking about how different things will be because I'm older. I always thought birthdays stopped at 29 but mine kept going up and up. Getting older doesn't bother me as much as the older I get the older my parents get. I'm not as active as I was in school (all those times of still playing while injured caught up to me) but my son keeps me busy with all the sports he's in. This year I"ll have 4 siblings that will be 50 now that's OLD!

I really only feel old when I look at signs like the one Sandy posted or when I think about how many years I have at my current job. I've noticed the sign quite a few times over the years and it amazes me how quickly the time goes by.

At first thought I was thinking that Dana's comments match mine, but if I think hard enough I can remember some very rough times the next morning. In particular after a party Lisa Kidle had in 1988 (or 1989?). I think that was by far the worst hangover I've ever had. To this day I don't party with champaign. For me the real difference is that back then I could recover the next day at my own pace. With responsibilities (I do most of my drinking these days at company events) and kids (Class of 1987 reunion) you can't just blow off the next day.

By the way, I have a couple pictures from that party posted at a website I setup. It's http://cbhs-alumni.com. Feel free to post anything that would be interested to anyone that went to CBHS.

Dan I totally remember that party! It was New Years 1987 and her parents were Up North. That was one of the few times I have had champagne myself.
I want to say again that your website is awesome and everyone should take a peek. I will try to dig up some pics of Lisa's party, I have them somewhere.
Keep up the good work!

To tell you the truth, ever since the loss of my brother Al in Iraq I pretty much think about how good it feels to be alive. I can tell you before that tragic day that mentally I felt young but did start to notice physically I wasn´t twenty anymore either. Don´t get me wrong, I´m still very active, I ride my motorcycle, my bicycle, I boogie board on weekends etc... . Anyways, like I said I pretty much have put the ageing debate aside and just appreciate the fact I´m still around and hope to be for a little while longer.

You were right, Dan. That party was 12/31/88 - 1/1/89 (for clarity's sake...not much else about that night is clear, that's for sure! ;) I love seeing those pictures again! I have them in a box somewhere. Did I have some big hair or what?! :) I'll have to dig out more pics and any copies of the Roar you may be missing for your site.

As for feeling old, I can only answer briefly. My almost-one-year-old is upstairs telling us that sleep is optional. I guess you can say that having two young boys makes me feel young and old simultaneously! (cop out answer, I know)

No, I don’t feel old at all. I’m not the typical 38 year old though (never married, no kids). I hope to experience that but I will make the best of whatever situation I find myself in. I still try to stay in shape and do my share of “fun” things. My parents are in their 70’s and one time I called them during a hurricane (a few years back, they live in Florida ) and they were having a hurricane party. All of my Aunts and Uncles are older and have lived full lives and still party it up on frequent occasions. You don’t have to party to feel you, my point is there ways haven’t changed in the way of fun or zest for live and neither have mine. Age is truly a number, I just eat better, and live more mature life.

What kind of question is that? Of course I feel old, I am old...we are all getting old, but that is just part of the journey. The question is, do I feel as old as we are getting?
Sometimes, I do indeed feel close to 40. This is especially true when I look at my daughter, who will turn 18 in June! There are also mornings when I really feel age hitting me. Overall though, I don't really feel like I'm approaching 40. Often, I don't even feel as though I'm an adult yet, let alone one that is approaching middle age! I remember thinking that 30 was old, and 40 ancient! Now, 40 just doesn't seem so old anymore...

I think that mentally I feel older than I do physically for the most part though. Seeing others in my life age really drives home the point that I too am aging. Even though I might still feel like a 25-year-old at times, I am often forced to acknowledge that this isn't the case. When my daughter's friends call me Sir or Mr. Pryor, it makes me feel old. When I hear music from my youth on the oldies stations, it makes me feel old. When I see those nasty signs (such as Sandy posted) reminding me of our age, it makes me feel old. Without these reminders though, I really don't feel it or think about it. As I said above, getting old is just part of the journey. I knew so many people who didn't live to have the opportunity to make that part of the journey, it wouldn't be right for me to complain if things got a little tougher for me as I make it through this stage of life.

If you didn't know how old you were, how old would you be?

I DO NOT FEEL OLD!!! I FEEL ALIVE!!!

Do I feel old?
- I have a bad back.
- I just had lasik done on my eyes because I couldn't support the weight of my glasses any more (inch thick lenses)
- my hair is completely gray (but has been since my first year of college)
- I huff and puff when I play with my puppy

But under no circumstances do I feel old. I can't stop "growing" older every day, but I refuse to grow up. I act much like a five year old. I met the love of my life about 8 years ago. And life is worth living more every day. We had a house built in the country and are under taking much of the d.i.y. "stuff". We bought a two seater convertable. We go four wheelin' and dirt biking'. We are into cooking. We love working in the garden. We try a new "challenge" every year - this year it is white water rafting (can't wait until July). So NO, I don't feel old. I feel more alive than ever (totally different than the shy kid who tried to blend into the background and go unnoticed in high school).
